The Landscape Show 2016

Pruning Plus Workshop

Pruning Plus: Advanced Pruning workshop with Dr. Ed Gilman and Mark Chisholm is sponsored by the Florida Chapter ISA.  Dr. Ed Gilman and three-time international climbing champion Mark Chisholm team-up to not only describe and demonstrate current structural pruning strategies to improve tree architecture, but to also show the latest climbing strategies from one of the best climbers in the world! The duo will focus on the short- and long-term response of trees to pruning and show many real-world examples from across the world. We will discuss not only how to satisfy customer objectives but how to deliver added value by reducing the likelihood for tree failure – all this while incorporating current tree biomechanics research and experience. RPG Workshop: Learn the New Grades and Standards – November 3, 2016

field day website pictureThe Annual Roots Plus Growers (RPG) Workshop cosponsored by RPG, Florida Chapter ISA, and University of Florida IFAS will return to Marshall Tree Farm in Morriston, FL on November 3rd, 2016.  This year’s workshop will focus on the all New Florida Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants including: the new 7 step process, changes in the new 5th Edition, grading exercises, inspecting and handling trees upon delivery, new planting specifications and details, and sample grading exercises.  The Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants has been completely revised by a team of your colleagues.  This revised version is shorter and less complicated than the 4th Edition (1998) edition – now with only seven steps instead of ten. The workshop will feature indoor classroom sessions and outdoor hands-on sessions in the morning and afternoon. Speakers include: Dr. Ed Gilman, Michael Marshall. Grades & Standards, 5th Edition: Now in Effect

The new Florida Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants, 5th Edition, is complete and ready to be downloaded! The manual’s electronic online format allows DPI to insert minor corrections and additions when needed. The last revision was in 1998 – 17 years ago. DPI will convene an ad-hoc working group to review the manual again in five years.  This 5th Edition of the Florida Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants went into effect September 1st, 2015.  FNGLA and many leading members proudly worked with DPI during 2014 and 2015 to update the Grades and Standards. FNGLA salutes DPI for its stewardship in making available this updated and electronic industry bible for Florida’s nursery and landscape businesses!
